Some down to earth, colorful and entertaining, "Blues Man" dialogue between the two is scattered throughout this otherwise scorching studio piece Track 3, Stevie's Pride and Joy, just smokes and is clearly my album favorite. If you are a Blues connoisseur, I don't have to tell you the significance of this CD. It is truly a priceless snap shot in time when one of the old masters of Blues, Albert King get's down heavy (with the then rising star) the late great Stevie Ray Vaughn. I believe I've listened to this CD at least a hundred times already and should buy another copy just to lock up for posterity. This CD is well worth the slightly higher price, buy it, you won't regret it.
It didn't take off for me until the last two songs except for Pride and Joy. Great musicians but not so great album.
Five of the numbers go for at least eight minutes each. I know B.B.
Vaughan went on to live up to King's predictions but, as you all know, died in a plane crash seven years after this 1983 concert.Nonetheless, music lovers have been given a real treat, thanks to this 1999 CD release. Part of the fun of listening to this CD is to hear Albert talking to a young Stevie Ray: the old guy "passing the torch" to one of the new blues greats.
Albert is awed at this young guy's playing and Stevie is awed to be playing with one of the all-time greats in blues. We get two blues greats, having fun and providing wonderful music a great session in which boys guys sounded on top of their games.
You can feel the love and respect these two men have for each other and their music. King is the "king" but, for me, I always liked Albert better. The two seem to bring out the best in each other here, and what a pleasure to hear them sing and play.
If you are a fan of either man, this is a CD to own.
Outstanding CD. It will make you smile, tap your toes, and do a little dance.
As a huge chicago blues fan, and a even greater SRV fan, you truely get the best of both worlds. Every track on this cd ROCKS. With the hundreds of blues cd, that I own, spanning from leadbelly to keb'mo, this cd holds a special place in my heart. This cd comes out just as SRV'S texas flood is released, and the rest they say is HISTORY. A must for any true blues fan, and in my opinion, One of the top 5 cd for people new to the blues to start with. You will not be dissapointed, you will become an instant lover of the blues.
